The position of West Flanders along the North Sea coast makes it ideal for energy production. The power of the wind, waves and tides attracts pioneering blue energy companies to the province and its energy-focussed Port of Ostend. The blue energy cluster exists to provide rich infrastructure and support for innovation and growth-minded businesses.

The blue energy expert group includes the knowhow of Howest, KU Leuven, Ghent University, VLIZ (Flanders Marine Institute), OWI application Lab, Sirris and VIVES.

The group’s research and valorisation activities centre around West Flemish test infrastructure, e.g.  the coastal and ocean basin..

Belgian Offshore Cluster
The Belgian Offshore Cluster (BOC) is a wide and independent cluster organisation of the Belgian offshore industry which maintains the necessary relationships between the sector, governments and international organisations, and helps the sector grow both locally and internationally. BOC has about 50 members.
Blue Cluster
The members of the Blue Cluster, a group of innovative private companies active in a wide range of sectors, have created an organisation dedicated to developing and promoting economic activities that are linked to the sea. By fully incorporating cutting-edge small and medium sized companies in the cluster organisation and the innovation projects, the Blue Cluster ensures that they can accelerate their growth and leapfrog international competition.

VOKA West Flanders
Voka - Chamber of Commerce West Flanders represents more than 3,200 small, medium and large enterprises throughout the province. Voka offers the entrepreneur access to the influence, knowledge and network of the largest entrepreneurs' organization in Flanders.
Unizo
UNIZO (Organisation for the Self-Employed and SMEs) is a Flemish organisation for self-employed entrepreneurs. UNIZO West Flanders unites around 15,000 independent entrepreneurs and liberal professions, from starters to SMEs.
TUA West
TUA West - Technical University Alliance for economic transformation in West Flanders - is a unique partnership between the Province of West Flanders, the Howest and VIVES colleges, the universities of Ghent and KU Leuven, and the employers’ organisations Voka and UNIZO. TUA West promotes and fosters excellence in higher education and research in West Flanders.
Academy for the Future
With the Academy for the Future the Province of West Flanders links the requirements of the business sector and future-oriented training courses for job seekers, workers and entrepreneurs. The Academy is also actively involved in the promotion of jobs and relevant training courses.
Port of Oostende
The Port of Ostend – Energy Port focuses on the installation and maintenance of offshore wind farms and has all the necessary facilities available, such as a dedicated terminal, priority for offshore service vessels,… The Port also facilitates innovation and development, e.g. on the fields of wave and tidal energy.
OWI-Lab
The Offshore Wind Infrastructure Application Lab (OWI-Lab), an initiative of Sirris, is a research, development and innovation platform that translates academic research into industry solutions. The initiative also sets up R&D and innovation projects and invests in testing and monitoring facilities.
GreenBridge
GreenBridge is the blue growth incubator and Science Park in Ostend supported i.a. by POM West Flanders, Port of Ostend and University of Ghent. GreenBridge offers office space, customized services, a demonstration area and blue energy research and demonstration infrastructure in its incubator and Science Park.
