West Flanders in Europe

The coastal province at the heart of Europe

West Flanders is the most western province of Flanders, the northern region of Belgium. It is the only province in Belgium situated on the country’s North Sea coastline. The capital of the province is Bruges, which has been the centre of trade for European commerce since the early Middle Ages.

With its neighbouring countries France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands, as well as the United Kingdom just across the Channel, Belgium has a central position within North-West Europe. West Flanders is know as an ideal business region for companies that focus on international distribution and/or trade, such as Pan-European distribution centres.

West Flanders is also located at the heart of Europe’s most prosperous area, an area that includes leading centres like London, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt. In addition to its excellent location, West Flanders also provides the right infrastructure with the availability of two well-equipped and optimally situated seaports (Zeebrugge and Ostend), two airports (Ostend and Wevelgem) and an optimal road and rail network.
